4 P’s For PE in 2020

At Lewiston High School we are going “all in” with PLT4M programming to supplement our physical education program as we enter the upcoming school year. With the potential of teaching in a traditional schedule model and the possibility of switching to a blended learning model with students on campus every other day, to the necessity of having to return to a distance learning model, PLT4M equips us to maintain the integrity of our fitness programming.  The various training programs offered are outlined in PLT4M’s Program Guide. Using PLT4M for your fitness training will allow your physical education programming the flexibility needed to navigate through the current changes in education. Whether your school district is delivering education in a traditional, blended, or distance model PLT4M has a program for student success.  To get started with PLT4M, first assess your curriculum. Inventory your current curriculum and determine which lessons can be restructured to incorporate PLT4M programming for traditional, blended, and distance learning models. Review the PLT4M Program Offerings and select the programming that works for your program. Then you are ready to implement the 4 P’s.

THE PLAN:

Once you have identified your curriculum offerings, communicate the plan to all stakeholders: administration, department members, parents, and students. Strive to create normalcy in classroom routines and procedures paying attention to how these procedures can easily be translated to online delivery. At LHS our students are on a block schedule. Our physical education department is establishing routines for students to submit “off day” workouts as part of their performance evaluations. This requirement will allow our department to easily navigate between on-campus classes and online delivery. Creating consistency in delivery regardless of the learning model being used is crucial for student learning.

THE PROCESS

PLT4M is a curriculum built around progression and planning. At LHS we will begin the school year teaching all of our students on the “basics”. We will instruct all our fitness class students on proper movement mechanics and build a baseline level of total body strength and familiarity with the PLT4M app. With the extensive listing of PLT4M Training and Exercise Videos, we can be assured that our students are instructed in basic fundamental movements. From there, we will begin assigning programming to match the expectations of our course offerings. THE PROGRESSION

When we have students on campus for in-person learning, instructors can lead students through daily workouts utilizing PLT4M’s Program Guide that walks you through each lesson step by step. With our mobile technology, students readily have workouts in hand to review as they progress through their workout. If we are in a blended or distance model of learning, students have two ways to access their PLT4M workouts: the mobile app and the website.  With PLT4M’s “Schedule a Program” feature, teachers can easily assign a program to students. This is a feature that is a valuable tool in a blended or distance model of learning. With schedules, you can set a start and end date, choose a program and determine the group/class/students you want to deliver it to. The PLT4M system then delivers each week’s workout, one week at a time, progressing students through the program week by week. [/vc_column_text][/vc_column_inner][vc_column_inner width=”1/2″][vc_single_image image=”7905″ img_size=”large”][/vc_column_inner][/vc_row_inner][/vc_column][/vc_row][vc_row][vc_column][vc_column_text]

THE PERSONALIZATION

PLT4M programming allows you to personalize training programs for your students based on their fitness goals. The personalization features available in PLT4M include assigning students to specific groups to work on specific training goals and the ability to assign supplemental training programs to students. You can also easily modify any PLT4M training program by simply making a copy and then making the modifications desired.  PLT4M offers the opportunity to personalize workouts for every student. PLT4M team members are eager to assist with this process and the PLT4M Help Center provides assistance to build a program that will work for your physical education program.

THE FINAL WORD

PLT4M offers the ability to coordinate your fitness class offerings and collaborate with your colleagues creating a unified approach in your physical education department. The versatility that PLT4M programming offers our program, along with the accountability and engagement of our students is exciting. We are looking forward to our first full year of PLT4M programming in our school district. I encourage you to take your physical education program to the NEXT LEVEL with PLT4M!
