Whitney’s Approach & Insights
Whitney shared her philosophy, approach, and how PLT4M plays a role in her program. Here’s what she had to say:
Goals & Mission
“My approach is to create a safe, engaging, and supportive environment where all students develop the skills, knowledge, and confidence to stay active, make healthy choices, and enjoy physical activity for a lifetime.”
How I Use PLT4M
“I teach at two K–4 buildings, so I have a wide variety of learners and levels. The structure and consistency of PLT4M has been key.
One of the biggest ways I use PLT4M is how it makes it seamless to connect skills from start to finish within an activity. It also incorporates the whole learner.
For example, there are multiple ways to do an activity listed. This gives students a choice to find their ‘go to’ way to complete the skill or task. I have found that giving students multiple ways to try something goes a long way in practicing, building confidence, and ultimately mastering the skill.
As a PE teacher, this makes my job easier, but also really rewarding to see students not give up, master the skill, and want to keep building on more.”
Why I Use PLT4M
“PLT4M is a comprehensive, standards-aligned physical education program designed to meet the needs of every student.
It has provided me with a structured yet flexible curriculum that supports skill development while still allowing me to customize and add my own ideas.
The platform includes clear ‘I Can’ statements, built-in assessments, and engaging video demonstrations to help students understand and apply skills at their level.
I love the consistent, user-friendly layout and strong data collection tools. My students have been more engaged and have loved the new activities it has provided.”
Impact on My Program
“This program has made my planning easier and more fun. After teaching for so many years, it’s a fresh way to see content I’ve used before in a new way.
It has sparked my love of PE again and helped me keep games new, more relevant, and exciting. This has made students want to participate more and learn more.
My biggest impact is how it connects to physical education content and health and fitness standards. It makes the program valid and easy to use while still allowing flexibility to bring in your own ideas.”
Favorite Feature
“I do love them all, but if I had to pick a favorite, it would be the ‘I Can’ statements.
I love referring back to them at the end of class and doing a quick check to see if students understand what we worked on that day. Kindergarten through 4th grade students can remember those quick ‘I Can’ statements.
If they can recall that, I feel like I made an impact and got through to them that day with some learning.”
