Check out a sample of Coach Max breaking down the 4 points of performance of the air squat.

Hey Stride! Within our fitness enrichment programs, There’s lots of great content and you’ll see me and other instructors bringing you through workouts and different movements. Here’s a sample of me breaking down just one movement that you’ll learn.

Air Squat Review

We’re gonna review our air squat. As you remember, there are four points of performance with the air squat. It starts with stance. Our stance is right outside of our hips, entire foot in contact with the ground. Once we have our stance, we’re now gonna talk about our knees. Our knees should always track our toes. So as we go down to execute the squat, my knees are in line with my toes. We don’t wanna squat, and let our knees come in.

And we see when we do this, we actually break our first rule, which is entire foot not in contact with the ground. So we go, stance, knees, lumbar curve maintained, which we talk about chest up, And then and only then do we talk about full depth in our air squat. Here’s a couple good reps of our air squat.

Knees Tracking Over Toes Focus

Now, Today, our focus is our second point of performance, which is knees tracking our toes. What that means is, again, with my entire foot on the ground when I initiate my squat are the knees in line with the toes here. Now, If we let those knees cave, we’re not activating anything in this part of our legs here.

So you’re gonna see we focus on driving the knees out, and by driving the knees out, the hips are able to move freely. the hips are able to move back and down because the knees are out of the way. So again, with that full depth squat, The knees are not changing.

One fault we’ll also see is the knees starting to cave. And then as we squat, coming back out and in. The knees should not change throughout the entire squat. They stay in line the whole time.

Right now, you’re gonna break up into groups and do four sets of five reps. Let’s remember, we’re not doing these for speed, we’re doing them for quality.
