About Michael
Michael is a Health and Physical Education teacher and Director of Strength and Conditioning at Sparta High School with 15 years of experience. He works across both PE and athletics, bridging the gap between classroom wellness and physical performance while helping student-athletes build resilience, discipline, and confidence.
Michael’s Approach & Insights
Michael shared his philosophy, approach, and how PLT4M plays a role in his program. Here’s what he had to say:
Goals & Mission
“My goal is to empower students to view physical activity and wellness not just as a requirement, but as a lifelong foundation for confidence and resilience.
I focus on building a positive environment where students can master fundamental skills, understand the ‘why’ behind healthy choices, and develop the discipline needed to reach their personal best.
Ultimately, I strive to help every student-athlete discover their potential, fostering a sense of belonging and a drive for performance that carries far beyond the gym or the field.”
How I Use PLT4M
“I use PLT4M for all of my PE classes as well as the athletic teams I work with before and after school.
For PE (which includes a large number of students who do not play sports), we follow the 3-day off-season program that I assign to classes. Students utilize tablets in the ‘Rack View’ option to access their prescribed workout. My off-season athletes follow the same structure.
For our in-season teams, I follow the 2-day in-season program, but modify some of the exercises to be sport specific. Because our in-season programs have limited time, I don’t always have them use tablets—they base their weights using an RPE scale.”
Why I Use PLT4M
“PLT4M is a digital programming tool you can use to bridge the gap between classroom and weight room.
It provides teachers and coaches with health and fitness curricula, videos, and easy-to-use data tracking. I would consider it a central ‘hub’ where you can manage student-centered learning and progress from middle to high school.
PLT4M saves a lot of time and is customizable to fit any teacher’s needs.”
Impact on My Program
“One of the biggest impacts PLT4M has had on our student-athletes is the ability for them to understand the importance of proper programming in the weight room and the availability of extra teaching tools (videos) when I may not be available for direct instruction.
Using prescribed weights for individual athletes takes away any guessing and ensures that safety is always at the forefront.
Student data tracking also helps to boost self-esteem and is a motivator when athletes can see their growth progress.”
Here’s an example of a video used to break down proper form and technique, helping Michael ensure all students receive clear instruction—even in larger classes.
Favorite Feature
“Builder. It lets me adjust pre-built programs to fit the amount of time I get with different groups, and I like that I can add my own exercises.”
